How to install mods for Skyrim Special Edition on PC. Rich Edmonds. 30 Jun 2018 10. Wait for the mods to download in NMM. Select a mod you wish to install and choose 'Install'. The mod manager will do the rest, also read the instructions that come with both the mod manager and mod itself (it not complicated though). 99% of the mods available for skyrim will be on this site, nexus also have mods for other games to. It works with the non Steam version as I also use it. Hope that helps. Using NMM is very easy: you first install it, have it detect your various games, confirm that it will install the mods into the proper Skyrim folder in steam, and then start up the Nexus menu. From there you can download mods from the site directly to the NMM or download them normally and manually feed them into NMM through the 'Add Folder' button.
This tutorial will take you step-by-step through the process of installing mods for Skyrim, and soon you will be gaming like the rest of us! Note that these instructions are based on Windows 7.
- Install Skyrim through Steam. For this tutorial we will be using the path 'C:GamesSteamSteamAppscommonskyrim'. If you have installed Steam into your program files folder (which is not recommended) you have three options before you begin modding Skyrim:
- Run Skyrim as an admin
- Right click the TESV.exe found in your 'SteamSteamAppscommonskyrim' folder (or alternatively a shortcut to it on your desktop)
- Click 'Properties...' and navigate to the 'Compatibility' tab
- Tick the checkbox next to 'Run this program as an administrator'
- Give yourself Full Control permissions on your Skyrim folder
- In Windows Explorer, go to your 'SteamSteamAppscommon' folder and right-click your Skyrim folder.
- Click 'Properties...' and navigate to the 'Security' tab.
- Click the 'Edit...' button below the top box. A new window will open.
- In the box at the top, click on 'Users (<your computer name>/Users)'.
- Tick the Allow box next to Full Control. (If the Allow box is ticked and greyed out, then you already have Full Control permissions through another folder higher up, such as your Steam folder.)
- Click OK, then click OK in the Properties window also.
- Follow these steps to move your Steam install to a location outside of Program Files
- Run Skyrim as an admin
- Download a mod you want to install either manually or through NMM. (Follow this tutorial if you don't know how to download mods)
- NMM-Installation: First make sure NMM (Nexus Mod Manager) is installed. Then simply double-click the mod in the 'Mods' tab of NMM after it has finished downloading your mod. It will now begin to install your mod. If you are updating a mod you already have, it will prompt you if you want to update or install separately - what to choose here will vary from mod to mod, so be sure to read the installation instructions of each mod! Once it is installed, you can manage the load order in the 'Plugins' tab, where you can simply drag-and-drop the esp to change the load order. If the mod has no esp/esm, it won't appear in the 'plugins' tab, but don't worry, it is still installed. if the mod has a esp/esm, be sure to activate it by ticking the checkbox next to it in the plugins tab.
- Manual Installation: Download and install 7zip. Once you have downloaded the mod, open the archive (.7z, .zip or .rar) with 7zip, and click extract. Extract the files so that the files (esp, bsa, etc.) and the folders (meshes, textures, sounds, etc.) are in the Skyrim data folder (GamesSteamSteamAppsCommonSkyrimData). Activate the mod through your preferred launcher by ticking the checkbox next to the esp/esm.
- You have now installed a mod. Congratulations!
- Note that some mods have dependencies on other mods in order to work properly. Read the specific mod information for more details.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR is finally here for Rift, Vive, and Windows VR owners! What was originally released as a PSVR timed-exclusive late last year has made the transition to the older, more powerful, and more feature-rich PC VR platforms. Anyone that’s ever played The Elder Scrolls games (or any Bethesda games for that matter) knows that modding is always a huge part of the experience on PC.
Unfortunately, Bethesda is not offering official mod support on Skyrim VR or Fallout 4 VR, but that isn’t stopping fans from tinkering anyway. As expected, it didn’t take long for the internet to figure out how to mod Skyrim VR, so we’re going to break it down for everyone that wants to do something magical like enhance the dragons in their Skyrim VR playthrough. Tyriel Wood posted this video over on Reddit, which was then summarized by Reddit user -Chell.
Here are the steps to get mods installed for Skyrim VR on PC, you’ll need to be a bit tech savvy:
Enabling Mods:
- First, launch Skyrim VR and make sure it runs properly. Once confirmed, quit.
- Now on your PC navigate to:
Documents>My Games>Skyrim VR
and open theSkyrimPrefs.ini
document. - Add the heading
[Launcher]
at the bottom. Then, right under it, add the line:bEnableFileSelection=1
then save.
Nexus Mod Manager
- If you haven’t already, we highly recommend that you download and install the Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) to organize and keep track of all your mods.
- Now, run NMM (administration mode may be required). Once it opens, cancel the auto search (“Stop Searching” button) at the bottom right of the screen.
- Next, click the “…” button right below where it says Skyrim Special Edition.
- Select the folder:
*(steam installation path)*SteamsteamappscommonSkyrimVR
- Click the little check mark above and ignore the warning that it couldn’t find the .exe.
Install mods
- Once you’ve selected the mods you want to install and downloaded them, you need to navigate to …
appdatalocalSkyrim Special Edition
and copy theplugins.txt
to your clipboard. - Now, navigate to
appdatalocalSkyrim VR
and paste the plugins.txt document into this folder. - Finally just close NMM and start adventuring!
Once again, you can check out the original Reddit thread for answers to a lot of common questions and troubleshooting about the whole process.
Unfortunately, this means there is still no mod support for Skyrim VR on PSVR at all. Also, you should focus on using Skyrim Special Edition mods, not mods for the old, original Skyrim. And finally, any mods that require the Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE) mod as a prerequisite are not going to work since the SKSE isn’t compatible at all. So yeah, that means no SkyUI. Sad day.
What are some of your favorite mods to use are in Skyrim VR? We’ll be making a list of some of our favorites soon this week. Let us know down in the comments below!
