Purchasing new computer equipment can rapidly deplete a business budget. Older laptops and desktop computers may still operate perfectly after a few years but often lack native wireless connectivity or newer wireless technology. Rather than purchase a new fleet of computers, install a simple Netgear USB wireless adapter for each computer. This device, which plugs into your computer's USB port and is installed with a software driver, provides inexpensive and convenient wireless access.
1.Insert the Netgear software CD into your computer's CD drive. Click 'Run autorun.exe.' If the autorun option does not appear, click the Windows 'Start' button, select 'Computer' and double-click the CD drive to open the folder on the disc. Double-click the Netgear icon.

Things Needed
- Netgear Wireless USB Adapter driver software
- Router wireless security password
Tips
- If you do not have the software driver CD, visit the Netgear website (see Resources) to download the driver software for your USB device.
- If your local area network hides its service set identifier (SSID), Netgear displays the wireless network in the available networks list but does not display the name. You have two choices for connecting to a non-broadcasting SSID network. Either attempt to connect by selecting the network name from the list and entering the password, or access the router to temporarily enable SSID broadcasting while you connect.
- The U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team, or US-CERT, and the U.S. Department of Justice recommend using the strongest wireless security encryption available, called WPA-PSK or WPA2. Securing your network prevents unrestricted access and tampering with your network and networked computers. All new routers and wireless adapters include settings to secure your wireless network. If you own an older router that lacks WPA-PSK security, consider purchasing an updated device as soon as possible.
